CH 05For schools & families

What can student-led media do?

For educators and families: what PNTV asks of students, how the school community takes part, and where to go with questions.

CH 5.2Roles in a school community

Everyone has a part to play.

PNTV gives students real roles, and it gives the rest of the school community a way in — as guests in front of the camera and as the audience the work is made for.

  • 01

    Reporters

Find the story, ask the questions and tell it to camera.

  • 02

    Producers

Plan the episode, keep the running order and make sure it comes together.

  • 03

    Editors

Shape the footage into something an audience can follow.

  • 04

    Guests

Students, parents and staff who share what they know when they’re interviewed.

  • 05

    Audience members

Classmates, teachers and families who watch, listen and respond.

Each episode is a chance to share learning across the school: one class’s work becomes something another class, a teacher or a family can watch and talk about.

For educators and for families

For educators

Learning you can trace.

See how an episode connects to English and oracy, Media Arts, media literacy, inquiry across learning areas, and languages and community.

For families

See what they’re making.

Weekly episodes are public on YouTube. Many class podcasts are shared privately with teachers and parents. Questions about how your child’s work is shared are best taken to the school.
